Matt Damon Finally Turns the Tables on Jimmy Kimmel

For several years, it’s been the greatest running gag on late night talk TV: Jimmy Kimmel ending a show with the disclaimer, “Apologies to Matt Damon; we ran out of time.” Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the double-punchline to that bit was finally delivered by Damon. In spades.

With a duct-taped Jimmy in the background, Damon at one point during his commando-host appearance gleefully revealed that Kimmel is a bitter, jealous soul who has auditioned for every one of the actor’s film roles:

LA Weekly Nails Naked-Man-on-405 Coverage

In case you hadn’t yet heard, an unidentified naked man wearing only a pair of socks ran onto the 405 north freeway in Los Angeles this morning, before getting off at the Santa Monica Blvd. exit and eventually being apprehended by police.

At this early viral news cycle stage, LA Weekly staff writer Simone Wilson has already won the award for speediest and most comprehensive coverage by a local outlet. Just a few hours in, she’s already shared updates, celebrity tweets, and a great rear view:

Sheryl Crow Wants to Have Some Online Auction Fun

Far from the aura of a Santa Monica Blvd. sunrise, singer Sheryl Crow is involved in a very unusual impending real estate transaction. In partnership with Tennessee realtor Comas Montgomery and auctioneering network MarkNet Alliance, she has put up for online bid only her 150-acre French-style property in College Grove.

“Overall, the interest has been great,” MarkNet auctioneer Stephanie Mitchell tells FishbowlLA today via telephone. “We’ve had over 12,000 unique visitors to the auction site, and inquiries from Chile, Egypt, Canada and all across the United States.” Among the property features are a recording studio (minus the recording equipment), an indoor riding arena and solar panels that reduce the monthly utility nut by an average of 42%.

Oprah Winfrey Honors ‘MSF’ Gayle King at NYWICI 2010 Matrix Awards

You’d think Oprah Winfrey would be too bothered by a certain you-know-what to mention it at a high-profile event like New York Women in Communications’ annual Matrix Awards. Yet, she says, it’s her ‘MSF’ (mother sister friend) Gayle King who has needed the most consoling.

“May I say the last week was a rough week for Gayle when a so-called biography came out. Every day she was getting herself more and more worked up about all of my new daddies. Somebody saying ‘Hello, daughter. Call me. I need a new roof.’”

Watch an excerpt from Winfrey’s speech below and follow the click for a round-up of quotes from this year’s honorees and presenters.

Laurie David and Larry David Splitting Up

larry_david_382x174.jpg

Page 6 is reporting that Laurie and Larry David are separating after 14 years of marriage.

Laurie recently toured with Sheryl Crow to publicize the dangers of global warming and got Larry to drive a Prius on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Bet he writes a Ferrari into the next season.

He’s worth some $250 million. They have homes in LA and Martha’s Vineyard, (remember his tiff with Architectural Digest?) and in 2004, he told Eric Alterman for a piece on Hollywood fundraising in The Atlantic:

I heard nothing about the environment for all our lives and now this. I wish she would at least take back her own name.

That’s not going to happen. Larry David’s such the professional curmudgeon that it’s hard to tell when the joke stops.

Inside Condé’s ‘Passion’

In a move that is hard to not smack of desperation, at least for cynical media bloggers, Condé Nast is rolling out another elaborate ad campaign touting the importance of — nay, passion readers have for — its print magazines. The title of the campaign? “The Point of Passion: An ongoing exhibit by Condé Nast.” Of course.

You’ll recall Condé launched “Point of Passion” in 2005 with “typical” readers.

In this one, eight-page inserts will feature magazine-clutching celebrities in various states of print enjoyment, alongside tag lines like “It’s not a magazine, it’s a muse.” (That’s the subtitle for Mary-Louise Parker‘s gaze for the New Yorker.)

For Wired, Sir Richard Branson lies cradled in a chair aboard Virgin Galactic’s future SpaceShipTwo, reading; the line reads, “Part magazine. Part co-pilot.”

Others slated to appear in future “Passion” spots: Diane Von Furstenberg (Vanity Fair), Patrick Dempsey (Details), Burberry designer Christopher Bailey (Men.style.com), Eva Longoria (Glamour), Giada de Laurentis (Bon Appetit), Terence Howard (GQ), supermodel Natalia Vodianova (Vogue), Andre Balazs (Concierge.com), Marc Jacobs (Style.com), Zoey Kravitz and Lorraine Nicholson (Teen Vogue), Sheryl Crow (Self), Hugh Jackman (Men’s Vogue), Jim Nantz (Golf Digest), Preston Bailey (Brides.com), Greg Norman (Golf World).

  • A Year After Colbert: Little Bombs White House Dinner

A year watching Steven Colbert fillet the Bush administration at the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, we knew Colbert’s replacement, Rich Little, would be about as edgy as a butter knife. What we didn’t know: Little’s act would bomb like one. Which is, to a man, what everyone in the room said (except for Bush himself, who said Little was “absolutely perfect“).

    FishbowlDC’s recap:

The whole thing made us feel that we were not at the White House Correspondents Dinner, but rather frozen in a 1970s moment … stuck in a basement somewhere with orange carpeting, flower patterned couches, wood paneling and a black and white television with rabbit ears.

In fact, the evening’s lone exciting moment came in the form of Sheryl Crow and Karl Rove, who got into a Lou Piniella-worthy argument over global warming between the tables. (Crow and Laurie David‘s take is here.)
