Sirius Producer Pifferrer Talks Social Media On The Menu

mmm_2-3.gif

Sirius radio producer and host Mike Pifferrer joined Jason Boog of GalleyCat and AgencySpy‘s Matt Van Hoven on today’s mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu to discuss the biggest media headlines of the day.

First, Pifferrer talked about how he and other Sirius radio hosts on his show “The Morning Mash Up” use social media to connect to fans beyond their show. “Show’s don’t end when the show is done anymore,” Pifferrer said. “You need to be available to people 24/7 in order for them to really understand you and to get to know you as a person and to develop a liking for whatever it is you’re doing.”

“If a listener tweets [a host] I try to encourage them to write back as soon as possible,” he went on, explaining his approach to social media. “Facebook is great because while Twitter can get a little cluttered…you can just start a discussion on Facebook…We also have a blog.”

Also discussed: director and actor Kevin Smith‘s recent Tweet-a-thon and New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell‘s rescue from captivity in Afghanistan today.

In addition to producing “Morning Mash Up,” Pifferrer also hosts Sirius XM Hits 1 and 20on20 Late Night. You can also follow him on Twitter.

This lead by Alana Semuels just isn’t it: “Howard Stern is making some Sirius money on the first anniversary of his satellite radio premiere. The shock jock on Tuesday became the stock jock with the disclosure that he and his agent were awarded $82.9 million in Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. shares as a bonus for helping the company exceed a subscriber forecast made when he was lured away from over-the-air radio.”
