Advance Viewer Says David Gest Doc About Michael Jackson is ‘Pretty Good’

After originally hinting at a 2010 release for the feature documentary The Real Michael Jackson, David Gest dropped off the radar with his project. But just before Memorial Day, he resurfaced on the Universal Studio lot to host a May 26th sneak preview for family members and celebs like Smokey Robinson and Angie Dickinson.

Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411 has the details, along with the text of the email invite. That message contains a great endorsement for the film from Motown legend Lamont Dozier, which Friedman seconds to a certain extent via his own Deep Glove:

The source I spoke to says the documentary is pretty good mainly because it includes lots of rare footage of Michael and the Jacksons. How Gest got the rights to the footage, I don’t know. He does have plans to release the doc in the UK.

Jury Still Out on Butcher ‘Guru to The Stars’ Trial

queenlatifah.jpgThe jury is still out on the Feline Butcher — holistic health guru to such stars as Tom Cruise, Lisa Marie Presley and Queen Latifah — who is facing 17 counts of practicing medicine without a license and one count of grand theft.

The jury’s verdict could put Butcher’s holistic health clinic out of business, but it could also put her behind bars. It would weigh heavily on the Church of Scientology, which is a big supporter of Butcher’s anti-drug regimen for treatment. Butcher is an avowed high-ranking church member.lisamarie.jpg

The trial for the faux practitioner came to a close Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court with numerous Scientology disciples present in the courtroom and the jury has been deliberating ever since.

Butcher, who has treated with holistic techniques other stars like Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson, was investigated specifically by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Halt Authority Task Force in the case of photographer Clive McLean, who died in 2005.

Mclean’s widow, Erica McLean, says that Butcher, being a Scientologist, encouraged her husband to abandon chemotherapy in favor of a regimen of “vitamins and magic drops.”

McLean, who was assisted by private investigator Paul Barresi, claims that the couple paid close to $120,000 on useless treatments. Barresi was a friend to Clive McLean as well, having been photographed by McLean for Hustler Magazine. Barresi turned over a cache of information about Butcher to the Halt Authority Task Force.

Grammy Gossip Fest

Saturday night found everyone but a hung-over indisposed Justin Timberlake at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy bash, Jennifer Hudson was in full voice, as were The Blackeyed Peas and Smokey Robinson. Davis, known for speechifying to the max, dedicated the evening to Ahmet Ertegun.

Maria Villar, the other resident of Franklin Avenue, was nominated for a Grammy for her design of Rhino’s boxed set, Girl Group Sounds Lost and Found. She didn’t win, but she looked hot.

Marc Malkin thinks Jessica Simpson and John Mayer are an item. Ryan Seacrest asked Mayer directly, and got an answer in Japanese. Or maybe an order for Nobu to go.

The Envelope’s Jeff Miller sorts best, worst and who cares? moments. In no particular order: Police reunite, Joan Baez compares Dixie Chicks to Woody Guthrie and Carrie Underwood thanks Simon Cowell after her folks and the supreme deity.
