New Life For Gaming Magazine

egm.pngBetween the rain and all the doom and gloom about magazine closures, it’s been a pretty grim day for New York media. So when we learned that the founder of shuttered gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly plans to resuscitate the pub, it pretty much made our day.

EGM‘s owner, Ziff Davis Media, closed the magazine in January, after selling its 1Up.com group of Web sites to UGO Entertainment. When UGO decided not to purchase EGM, Ziff Davis made the decision to shut it down.

But EGM founder Steve Harris announced last week that he had entered into a deal with Ziff Davis to “re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights” of EGM. He plans to relaunch the mag later this year.

“We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community,” Harris said in a statement. “The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.”
