CNN Vet Alan Duke Jumps to Radar Online

AlanDukePhotoFor the past five and a half years, for all but one month, Alan Duke‘s byline has been the number one desktop-views attraction at CNN Digital. During that one month in question, Duke went on vacation for three weeks.

More specifically, for the first nine months of 2014, Duke’s byline attracted a staggering 300 million desktop page views. His most notable recent CNN item was a September 18 report, with Susan Candiotti, that Yorkville Endoscopy clinic workers told investigators they saw and heard Joan Rivers‘ personal doctor take a selfie with the unconscious entertainer.

Although Duke was spared in the latest round of CNN layoffs, the journalist – who had been with CNN since 1989 – decided it was time to leave. As of this week, he is the Los Angeles-based national correspondent for revamping AMI website Radar Online.

“Last month, there was an event that really told me this was the time to leave,” Duke tells FishbowlNY via telephone. “We had an internal “huddle” [meeting] for CNN Digital, which was both a pep talk and an update on business affairs. In the executives’ statements and voices, I just picked up panic and chaos.”

Outed by TMZ, New York Doctor Scrubs Her Facebook Page

Facebook is where TMZ grabbed a pair of large photos to run with its Wednesday exclusive identifying a New York ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist as the doctor allegedly responsible for initiating an unauthorized biopsy procedure on Joan Rivers at Yorkville Endoscopy. Today, that same Facebook page is blank.

The 24/7 drumbeat of online gossip sites and social media has pushed us into a new phase of American jurisprudence – “Guilty Until Proven Innocent.” Even though there is still much to be determined and confirmed by investigators, half the world is calling for this individual’s head. People can still comment to the blanked-out Facebook page and one California doctor is espousing the minority view:

Michio Abe: I’m here for you Dr. Gwen Korovin. I’m simply here to stand beside you because there is zero evidence that you did anything to cause Joan Rivers’ death but yet your FB page has been so full of hatred towards doctors in general. We, doctors, do not deserve that kind of treatment. No, not at all.

Daily News Source Reaffirms Rivers Biopsy Claim

ShutterstockJoanRivers2011On Tuesday, New York Daily News TV editor Don Kaplan dropped a bombshell. According to his unnamed source, an impromptu biopsy was performed at Yorkville Endoscopy on Joan Rivers by a physician who accompanied the comedienne, and it was that procedure that sent her into cardiac arrest.

Wednesday, via Reuters and CNN, the clinic fired back, insisting that such a procedure has never been performed at the clinic. On Rivers or any other patient. However, today, Kaplan informed TV Week that his source remains adamant:

“Yes, our source is standing by the story,” said Kaplan via email, “as are others who have come forward with the same information.”

Baldwin, Cooper and Republican Strategist Blaze July Media Trail

In the space of just a few hours today, all media hell has broken loose. On what was supposed to be a lazy holiday-week Monday.

Via Daily Beast email-share exclusive, Andrew Sullivan has officially confirmed CNN newsman Anderson Cooper’s sexual orientation. In a tease for their August issue interview cover story by Todd S. Purdum, Vanity Fair dangles a hellacious quote from Alec Baldwin about TMZ’s Harvey Levin. And on the front page of the LA Times, Republican TV ad guru Fred Davis reveals to reporter Mark Barabak that Obama regrets, he’s had a few.

Add in the Cruise-Holmes mess and this is about the wackiest July media kickoff in recent memory. Without even counting New York-based Susan Candiotti’s weekend CNN bomshell about some apparent Penn State, e-mail cover-up orchestration.
