Get Your Start as a Professional Fashion Writer

Glamorous FishbowlNY readers, have you ever wanted to write for a fashion magazine? Interview your favorite celebrity style icons? Party with gorgeous models? Have Valentino declare you his muse? Drink champagne with Karl Lagerfeld on a private jet? Have Anna Wintour cower every time you walk into a room?

We can’t guarantee any of these things will happen. But, for newbie aspiring fashion writers, one way to venture into the fold is to sign up for Mediabistro’s Intro to  Fashion Writing Course. The class is taught by Nadine Rubin Nathan, who was editor-in-chief of Elle South Africa. and contributed to Harper’s Bazaar as a fashion features editor in New York. You may not have Tom Ford on speed-dial by the end of the course, but you will have a pitch letter for a fashion feature and a collection of spec clips written for a high fashion print or online magazine.

The class begins May 23rd, so read more about the class and register here soon if you’re interested. And, FishbowlNY readers, because we are so very fond of you, you will have $50 off registration with the code FBNY50. Good luck!

WWD Milestones Debuts in Print and iPad

Believe it or not, the editors at Women’s Wear Daily know more about Gucci than anybody whispering – or yelling – in your ear as you walk through Chinatown. Why you’d ever be in Chinatown, we have no idea, but that’s not the point. The point is WWD just launched their newest “Milestone” issue, available in print and on the iPad, and it’s got Gucci completely covered.

The print issue and the app come with tons of information on Gucci in celebration of the label’s 90th anniversary. Some highlights include an extensive look at the Tom Ford and Domenico De Sole era and an interactive Gucci time line on the iPad app.

Go check it out if you’re into Gucci, then next time someone tries to hustle some gear onto you in Chinatown you can yell, “Did you even know that the first Gucci store in America was on West 58th Street???” It’ll be great.

GLAAD Awards: The Paarty Never Ends

2007MA_NomineesThumb.gif

The GLAAD Media Awards nominations have been announced, and these selections are a lot more fun than the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Nominated for best wide-release feature is Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, along with Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Running With Scissors, and The Night Listener. Borat is not mentioned, not that anyone expected it to be.

Special awards will be presented to Patti LaBelle, Martina Navratilova, Tom Ford, and Spanish language jouranlist and writer Jaime Bayly. Navratilova’s the best tennis player ever, LaBelle’s an icon, Bayly’s received death threats in his native Peru and Ford just released a very stinky perfume, so we’re a tich confused about why Ford gets an award, but whatever. He looks great all dressed up, and that’s what counts at a party.
