Another Editor Leaves Men’s Journal

tfosterparadise.jpgFollowing Tom Foster‘s departure in January comes the latest exit at the “turbulent” world of Wenner Media, as relayed by MJ editor Jim Kaminsky:

Everyone:

It is with great regret that I’m announcing that James Lochart, Men’s Journal’s managing editor for the past year, has decided to leave his post on June 12, after the close of the August issue. James has been an invaluable part of this staff during its remarkably turbulent (and fun-filled!) past year, and in all has logged three years at Wenner Media.

On his own volition, James has decided the time is right to explore the bountiful world beyond Wenner. His unflappable demeanor, complete dedication and encyclopedic Mets knowledge will be missed.

James was kind enough to give me a long lead time to find a great replacement. Men’s Journal’s new Managing Editor is Brekke Fletcher. For the past two years she has been Managing Editor at Jane, and previously she held Managing Editor positions at Elle Girl, FHM, and Lucky. She is terrific and I feel fortunate to have her on board. She starts on June 6.

Please join me in thanking James for all of his great work, wishing him the best of luck and in welcoming Brekke. Enormous, blowout goodbye party tk.

JK

Editor Tom Foster Resigns from Men’s Journal

    tfosterparadise.jpgTrouble in “paradise”?

Tom Foster, editor-in-chief, Men’s Journal, Monday:

“The conventional wisdom in the magazine world is that you have to job-hop to get ahead — that’s not necessarily true. I got the job because I had been there and knew the magazine through its various forms.”

    Today:

Tom Foster, editor of Men’s Journal, has resigned, citing irreconcilable differences with Jann Wenner. He’ll be out of the office by 1 p.m. today.

All hail the editors-in-chief (from left): CosmoGIRL!’s Susan Schulz, Redbook’s Stacy Morrison, mediabistro.com founder and CEO Laurel Touby, Men’s Journal’s Tom Foster, Slate’s Jacob Weisberg; Jane’s Brandon Holley, and Departures’s Richard Story

Slate‘s Jacob Weisberg called Slate a “cult.” Jane‘s Brandon Holley advised to “kill them with kindness.” Departures editor Richard Story admitted he was most famous at Vogue for hiring Lauren “Devil Wears Prada” Weisberger. CosmoGirl! editor Susan Schulz estimated that she spends 40 percent of her time editing.

At our “Editors on Truth Serum — The New Rules of Success Now” panel last night, top dogs at some of the leading glossy magazines (and Slate) got down and dirty, telling the crowd of 100 exactly where they’ve gone right — and wrong — as they carved their respective paths to that corner office.
