Tim Leiweke to Receive Variety Sports Award

All kinds of people are already on board for Variety’s Sports Entertainment Summit at the Loews Hollywood Hotel July 12, including ex-Laker Rick Fox, CAA agent Becky Sendrow, Grantland’s Bill Simmons and NBC Summer Olympics correspondent Michelle Beadle.

Today, the publication announced that in addition to making a keynote address, AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke will receive its inaugural Sports and Entertainment Leadership Award:

Paris-based TV network France 24 is the latest outlet to check in with a story on Mark Horvath, a 49-year-old former Los Angeles marketing executive who faced the specter of homelessness back in 2008 after losing his job.

As part of one of the most proactive and innovative ways of responding to the Great Media Recession, Horvath decided to shine a light on the plight of the homeless across the nation via his now-ongoing project InvisiblePeople.tv. Remarkably, Horvath has now upped the ante with a second website, WeAreVisible.com, a hub that aims to teach the homeless how to use Twitter and Facebook, as well as how to blog their unique and powerful stories.

Yes, this is the first one of two in as many months. Great big conferences in LA about a little thing called Twitter.

Tomorrow is the kick off for two days of twitterific tweetdom. Speakers include Biz Stone, Gavin Newsom, Tony Hawk, Tony Robbins, Jaime Kennedy and Tears for Fears’ Curt Smith.

Yes, Twitter can make an excuse for all these people to get together. It’s magic.
