MTV’s Jersey Shore Tops the Weekly Prime Time List

Well, Jersey Shore, now in its fourth season, has certainly hit its stride. The MTV reality program that made household names out of “The Situation” and “Snooki,” was number one for the week.

The show set in Italy this season, had an estimated 848,000 New York viewers with a 4.2 rating, according to the Nielsen Company.

The Yankees rocketed to number two on WWOR, despite an August 9th loss to the Los Angeles Angels (607,000/3.0).

The New York Giants return to the gridiron on WNBC/Channel 4, albeit only preseason, was enough for a sixth-place tie (541,000/2.7).

But WNBC got higher marks with America’s Got Talent, tying at number two (607,000/3.0). The next night of the amateur competition took hold of eighth place (509,000/2.5)

It was a typical week for 60 Minutes, landing at number four on WCBS (588,000/2.9).

HBO’s True Blood joined the venerable newsmagazine in fourth place (578,000/2.9).

But reps from Comcast later told Bloomberg, “the report that Comcast has a deal to purchase NBC Universal is inaccurate.”

However, that same report revaled that “negotiations for Comcast to buy about 50 percent of NBC Universal have been under way for at least two months.” Such a deal would depend on whether French company Vivendi SA decides to sell its 20 percent stake in NBCU.

After the jump, what some people around the industry are saying about the possible deal.

Update: Our sister blog TVNewser has an email from NBCU CEO Jeff Zucker to employees. Of the future of Vivendi’s stake, Zucker said, “They have not yet made us aware of any final decisions about their future with us; should they choose to exit, there are a number of possible things that could happen.”

Matt Haley On Character Fantasy

Matt Haley appears on USA network’s Character Fantasy this Saturday at 5pm. The interstitial series is hosted by Jeanne Mai.

He creates an animated character for a woman whose dream it is to do voice talent for cartoons. He says

I sat and sketched the character out with her, then I created and directed the actual animated segment at the end of the show, should be a hoot.

You can read more about Haley in Layers magazine, which despite the name, is not the journal of egg production.
