Jeff Fager Stepping Down as Chairman of CBS News, Returns Full Time to 60 Minutes (TVNewser)
Jeff Fager is leaving his role as chairman of CBS News and turning his “full attention” to 60 Minutes. FishbowlDC Fager served as CBS News’ chairman for four years, and had worked as the executive producer of 60 Minutes for seven years before that. THR / The Live Feed Fager has also extended his current contract as executive producer through 2019. As for a replacement, president David Rhodes now assumes sole leadership of CBS News. Fager assumed the role of chairman at a pivotal time for CBS, on the eve of Katie Couric’s exit from the CBS Evening News. June of 2011 saw current anchor, and longtime 60 Minutes correspondent, Scott Pelley, assume the role of lead anchor for the nightly news telecast. NYT CBS cast the moves as an orderly transition that was set in motion four years ago when Leslie Moonves, the CBS chief executive, asked Fager to take over supervision of the news division while remaining as executive producer of 60 Minutes. In his own memo, Fager said of Rhodes, “I hired him almost four years ago with this moment in mind, and he has exceeded all expectations.” Capital New York Fager’s dual roles as chairman of CBS News and E.P. of 60 Minutes did lead to some controversy. Last year, a flawed report about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya led to an internal investigation and the suspension of Lara Logan, who has since returned to the network.

LAT In 90 Seconds

A John Horn piece proclaims that in the recent agency swapping, “Endeavor was … the biggest net winner by a wide margin, while UTA was seen as taking the toughest hit to its much-heralded comedy business. No one believes CAA has lost its grip as the town’s dominant deal maker.”

bafflecksag.jpgUnemployed Actors Still Get A Say: SAG rejected a petition by A-listers like Kevin Bacon, Glenn Close and Ben Affleck that would allow only working actors to vote in upcoming contract negotiations. Most of the guild’s 120,000 members don’t work regularly. Unless you count Bennigan’s as work. And we do.

Is Paradigm Buying UTA?

united-talent.JPG

There’s a rumor floating around that Paradigm, thanks to Sam Gores and his brothers, is going to buy UTA. UTA’s been hemorrhaging agents and others lately (like Nick Stevens and Ben Stiller), according to Nikki Finke, and her commenters are mentioning Paradigm, as well. (Of course, one poster points out that Paradigm can barely pay the electric bill.)

Remember when Paradigm bought Writers & Artists Agency?

Of course, the most important question is what will happen to the much-coveted UTA job list?

UTA Launches Online TV Site: Student Films Pour In

408.jpg

Not content to just get clients by snatching warm bodies off the street, super agency UTA has teamed up with Veoh, the internet TV entity, to produce a single site to aggregate the high volume of talent and filmmaker submissions it has received since opening its doors October 2006. Or since LonelyGirl 15. From the press release:

UTAO has openly encouraged aspiring digital artists to submit their work for representation consideration, bucking the common agency practice of prohibiting unsolicited submissions.

Meaning that once the release is signed, UTA can plunder good ideas at will.
