Victoria Beckham Guest Edits September Glamour

The September issue of Glamour features Victoria Beckham on the cover and her ideas inside. According to WWD, Beckham is a guest editor for the fashion magazine, and took the task extremely seriously.

I wanted to put my stamp on the magazine,” Beckham told WWD. “They were really open to my ideas, like I wanted to show Lily [Collins] with not a lot of retouching. I have a very strong vision of what I like, and it’s cool and a little more edgy.”

For more “cool” and “edgy” material from Beckham, please listen to any Spice Girls album or watch Spice World.

Wolfgang Puck Profile Adds a Pinch of ‘Clang!’

Sometimes, journalists write as much to entertain themselves as they do the audience at large. The choice of a structural construct here and a stylistic variation there is occasionally all about challenging ourselves to come up with something worthwhile but at the same time a little different from the narrative norm.

Guy Adams succeeds admirably in this regard with his profile of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who after all these years has finally exported his restaurant brand back to Europe with a London branch of Cut. By inserting a number of strategic “clang!” exclamations at the end of various paragraphs, the Independent correspondent manages to convey both the Austrian-born chef’s manic staccato energy and unabashed fondness for name-dropping:

“I also hope to see some of the younger people in London society there,” he adds. “British soccer players, hopefully; David and Victoria Beckham sometimes eat at Cut in Los Angeles. They like good steak. I like football; we have become friendly.” Clang! Clang!

AEG Goofs with TMZ-Inspired Tip Sheet

In the wake of Robbie Keane‘s triumphant Saturday debut with the LA Galaxy, AEG vp of communications Michael Roth is being yellow-carded by media outlets for a crass photographer tip sheet.

Roth made the mistake last week of sourcing the ongoing TMZ.com feature “Who’d You Rather?”, which asks readers to vote on a side-by-side choice of two dream (or, sometimes, nightmare) bedroom mates. The forward pass by the parent company PR man of an August 16 TMZ.com poll pitting Victoria Beckham against Keane’s wife Claudine was first reported by India’s Asian News International (ANI) and expanded upon by UK tabloid The Daily Star:

Los Angeles media analyst Mike Raia said: “A lot of people had seen the TMZ piece, which was pretty crude and suggestive, especially in the way it was worded. But for the Galaxy’s owners to then literally point press and TV photographers in its direction is outrageous…”

Roth would only say: “I have absolutely no comment to make whatsoever.”

You’ve Got To Be Kidding Us, LAT/ Booth Moore Gives Advice to Victoria Beckham

vbeck.jpg

While everyone else huffs and puffs about the LAT’s plan to sell front-page ad space (Hello? Who didn’t see that coming?), we’re focusing our flabbergasted huff-puffery at the paper’s increasingly Cosmo-esque fashion pages.

Booth Moore’s piece about Victoria Beckham includes this bit of “Girl to Girl” advice:

However you’re built, be mindful of the rule that if you get your boobs out, put your legs away and vice versa. I guarantee you will look better and feel a lot more confident and comfortable.

and

The most important thing to remember if you’re wearing a dress that won’t let you wear a bra, such as one with a low back or, in particular, a deep-plunge front, is to make sure you have lots of toupee tape to keep everything in place. Don’t bother with [nipple tape] … go to a proper wig shop and get the real stuff as it’s much tougher and nothing will go anywhere when you’ve got that on. Word of warning though: be careful when you take it off that you don’t rip a nipple off too!

What’s wonderful, though, is that since the LAT hasn’t been totally swallowed up by vapidness, what appears right alongside this piece online is a headline reading, “Al Qaeda has renewed ability to attack U.S., report says.”

Ah, perspective. That and some well-placed toupee tape will take a girl far.

Victoria Beckam: The Invasion Begins

Extra is determined to sell Victoria Beckham as something other than a plastic surgery victim. From the press release:

VICTORIA BECKHAM: AMERICA’S SEXIEST IMPORT
Victoria Beckham reigns as America’s sexiest import and Extra catches up with her as she debuts her line, dVb, at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Oh yeah–she was smokin’ on the pitchers mound the other day.

NBC offers VICTORIA BECKHAM: COMING TO AMERICA on Monday, July 16. Set your Tivo for anything else.

Posh To Start Book Club for Celebrity Wives With Too Much Time on Their Perfectly Manicured Hands

200poshbook,0.jpg

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh, is starting a book club with Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lopez. According to some British tabloid:

Books that Victoria wants to talk about, include Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, as well as tomes by literary giants Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy.

In 2005, Posh told the Daily Telegraph that she reads books despite having said she didn’t.

In 2001, she wrote a book.

So, there’s been a progression of sorts. Remember, Brian Grazer doesn’t read himself, he has someone to do it for him. Who knows where this could lead? Maybe Posh will edit the LA Times?

NBC and Posh: Summer Reality Series Makes Dream Come True

victoria_beckham,0.jpg

NBC will present Victoria Beckham in a summer 6-part reality series, produced by Simon Fuller. The series will, in the words of the release:

give viewers an exclusive inside look at Beckham’s glamorous life as she makes the move across the pond from London to Los Angeles.

We’re going to watch her move? Unpack boxes? Whee.

Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment, somehow managed to say without laughing:

The series will give viewers a glimpse into what makes Victoria so popular and admired as one of the most glamorous women in the world. She makes news wherever she goes and our audience can now become insiders in this fascinating personal view of what being Posh truly represents.

FBLA thinks we know what Posh truly represents.
Fuller told a British paper that the series will humanize her, if that’s at all possible.

Beckham said:

This show is really something different, it’s pushing the boundaries and I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.

We’re surprised already. Ray Richmond, on the other hand, is thrilled to tiny bits. So is TV Junkie. Kidding.

$19.6M? NBC Bends To Beckhams

nbc_beckhams_fbny.jpg

NBC is close to a signing a reality TV show deal with Victoria Beckham. The show would focus on Beckham’s move to Los Angeles with husband David Beckham, who will play for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.

The Daily Mail says the deal is worth $19.6 million.

Sounds reasonable.
