Odd Person Makes Odd Claim About Wendi Murdoch

Clive Palmer, an Australian businessman and certified odd ball, says he’s suing Rupert Murdoch and that his estranged wife, Wendi Murdoch, is a spy. Palmer is upset because The Australian — a newspaper that Murdoch owns — ran a story criticizing him. So Palmer, being the peculiar type, went ahead and said something peculiar:

You know, Rupert Murdoch’s wife Wendi Deng is a Chinese spy, and that’s been right across the world. She’s been spying on Rupert for years, giving money back to Chinese intelligence. She was trained in southern China. I’m telling you the truth. Wendi Deng is a Chinese spy and that’s why Rupert got rid of her.

Right.

Well, just for some context, here are some things you should know about Palmer before taking this allegation seriously:

  • He is building an exact replica of the Titanic.
  • He says things like “We’ve all been in love, I’ve been in love, I’m in love at the moment. And if you’re not in love you long to be in love. What’s wrong with love?”
  • He’s building an amusement park full of robot dinosaurs. One of the T-Rex’s has already been named Jeff.

Rupert Murdoch is Selling His Yacht for Only $29.7 Million

Rupert Murdoch is selling his sailing yacht — named Roseharty — for $29.7 million. Murdoch is going through a divorce and he recently purchased a winery, so it makes sense that he’s looking to recoup some cash on the yacht. Plus, CNBC’s sources say Murdoch never used it as much as Wendi Murdoch did, which is totally not the reason Rupert is selling it.

Here are some details about Roseharty, via CNBC:

The yacht was built in 2006 by Perini Navi, the Italian shipyard known for its luxurious, sleek sailing yachts. Rosehearty has a crisp, modern interior by French designer Christian Liaigre, with five suites for 10 guests, including two VIP suites. The main mast of the yacht towers at 193 feet, and it has a sail area of 16,792 square feet.

An ’06 Perini Navi with interior by Christian Liaigre? Hmmm… We say lowball it.

Wendi Murdoch Switches Divorce Lawyer

It has been about two months since Rupert Murdoch filed for divorce from Wendi Murdoch, his wife of 14 years. And, if The New York Times is right, things are about to get rough. Wendi has ditched Pamela Sloan as her legal advisor and hired William Zabel.

The Murdochs signed a prenup and two postnups, but Zabel, who has had experience with “nasty marital spats,” is expected to debate custody rights of the couple’s two children and explore the details of the Murdoch family trust. Apparently the latter has been the source of contention for years.

In a 2006 interview with Charlie Rose, Murdoch mentioned that Chloe and Grace would enjoy the same financial benefits of the trust as his other four kids, but not the voting power. That didn’t sit well with Wendi:

The slip almost created a separation, and prompted Mrs. Murdoch to negotiate more favorable terms for her daughters, according to people close to the couple. Mr. Zabel, an expert in trust law, is expected to examine the soundness of the trust structure.

Round one hasn’t even started, but this is indeed shaping up to be a hell of a fight.

Fake Wendi Murdoch: No Idea How Twitter Account Got Verified

The Washington Post calls the British man behind the spoof Twitter account @Wendi_Deng “a savvy trickster,” and had he been trying to fool the national news media, that would be true. But he wasn’t. He was simply the beneficiary of corporate incompetence.

For reasons that remain unclear, Twitter verified the account, and a spokesperson for News International confirmed to The Guardian that the account was authentic. But the “savvy trickster” behind @Wendi_Deng hasn’t a clue how it happened. As he explained to The Guardian:

When Twitter verified it, I was completely and utterly shocked. A little nervous too, if I’m honest, about what had happened and whether it had all gone too far. I just couldn’t believe they would have verified such a high profile account without checking it out, but I absolutely received no communication from Twitter to the email address I used to register.

A-List Turnout for Kathy Freston’s Vegan Book Party

For most of us ink-stained wretches, throwing a book party in Los Angeles during a torrential downpour would whittle the attendees down to single digits. But when Arianna Huffington and Wendi Murdoch (yes, wife of Rubert) host such an event, everyone grabs an umbrella and braves the rain.

Friday night’s event, hosted at Arianna’s Brentwood home, was held in honor of Kathy Freston‘s newest book, “Veganist: Lose Weight, Get Healthy, Change The World.” Notable guests included Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Moby, Frances Fisher, Lorne Michaels, and Rob Reiner. So naturally, there was plenty of starfuckery going on. This fishie was making polite conversation with an elderly gentleman when he abruptly shoved me out of the way to get to Marla Maples. Remember her? Other 90′s flashbacks in attendance included Elizabeth Berkley, Tracey Ullman, Candice Bergen, and Oliver Stone.

Revisiting Some Murdoch Media Nepotism

For someone married to the 117th richest person in the world, Wendi Murdoch (pictured) endures relatively little LA media scrutiny. Not so Down Under, where the activities of spouses attached to Murdoch’s both senior and junior are always big news.

Over the weekend, Sydney Morning Herald social columnist Andrew Hornery touched on, among other things, her upcoming film adaptation Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. In doing so, he noted how being Rupert Murdoch‘s third significant other has its benefits.
