Scholastic Lays Off 11

schloastic.pngOur colleagues at GalleyCat have news that Scholastic laid off 11 employees last week from its Klutz and trade publishing departments.

The up side? It’s summer — you couldn’t pick a better time of year to be unemployed.

Zagat Cuts 16 Employees

zagat.pngIt seems that no media company is safe from cutbacks, and now we can add Zagat Survey to the list of companies that have downsized staff.

The company, which publishes the eponymous city guidebooks and runs Zagat.com, eliminated 16 positions yesterday, laying off staffers from a variety of departments.

“As with most businesses in the current economic environment, we are making tough decisions every day to keep our company in a position to keep serving consumers and to succeed,” Tiffany Barbalato, Zagat’s manager of communications, told FishbowlNY.
