Talking Portfolio Blues

A quick addendum to yesterday’s report that Portfolio.com managing ed Christopher Jones had left the magazine…

WWD this morning went all out with background info on what the heck is going on behind the scenes at Portfolio. All this Byzantine behind-the-scenes stuff can be summed up in under 100 words, which is what we’re trying to do:

  • Joanne Lipman is still clashing with her staff.
  • The Conde Nast higher-ups are considering taking control of Portfolio.com away from Lipman
  • Conde Nast’s million dollar Portfolio baby is still in trouble.

    We’re going to talk about this soon. A lot more. Because beyond the standard “OMG, high profile magazine launch faces unforeseen difficulties!” nonsense, there are some lessons here that we’re sure j-school professors everywhere will be using as case studies 15 years from now…
