The Greening of, Well, Everything

vanityfair_may_2006_green_issue.jpgWith Earth Day fast approaching, there’s been quite a bit of talk in the media about the cultural shift toward enviro-conscious stuff these days, with the basic premise being “green” is now “cool,” the new “black,” it’s no longer for “hippies,” etc.

First it was Vanity Fair, whose current “Green Issue” took some heat for, well, not practicing what its pages preached. Then Time, which this week rolled out its “green” supplement on the heels of an April 3 cover story on global warming. Last night’s Colbert Report even had a great bit on recent PBS specials on the planet’s demise.

This may be our “green” Vermont blood talking here, but we’re just wondering if there’ll be the same mainstream media passion for green initiatives, say, in May, when Earth Day is another year away.
