The PBS saga: Bipartisan eleventh-hour amendment might save the day!

big bird!.jpgGod, this is so dramatic and exciting! In the true spirit of Clifford, Barney, Big Bird and friends, two Democratic members of Congress, Rep. David Obey (D-WI) and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) have been joined by Republican Rep. Jim Leach (R-IA) in offering a bipartisan amendment on the House floor this week to restore the $100 million in slashed funding to the CPB for PBS. Aw! How cool is that?

Actually, even cooler is how they’re doing it: “by shaving administrative accounts in the bill that can afford it so that the additional funding does not add to the deficit.” That’s just like in the movie “Dave” when Kevin Kline gets the homeless kids shelter put back into the budget! That was on a few weeks back. Still holds up. Anyhow, go bipartisan amendment team! And go you, to call your representative to urge them to support it. Do so here, per Channel Thirteen, your trusty local PBS station.
