Corey Powell, who's spent 11 years as an editor at Discover, will take over the role of editor-in-chief. Most recently, Powell has been executive editor.

The magazine's editorial director, Patrice Adcroft, said the following in a statement announcing the appointment: "Corey is gifted in his ability to both grasp complex and cutting edge scientific information and then present that information in a lively and relevant manner to a lay audience. Discover's six million readers are lucky to have Corey's clear vision and thinking guiding the magazine they so love."

Prior to joining the magazine, Powell worked at Scientific American and Physics Today. He's also the author of God in the Equation and a member of the Amateur Astronomer's Association of New York.

COREY S. POWELL NAMED EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF DISCOVER MAGAZINE

Corey S. Powell has been named the Editor-in-Chief at DISCOVER, the nation's leading general-interest science magazine. Corey was previously the magazine's Executive Editor and has been an editor at DISCOVER for eleven years.

Prior to DISCOVER, Corey was an editor at Scientific American and Physics Today. His book, God in the Equation — an exploration of the spiritual impulse in modern cosmology — was published in 2002 by the Free Press. Corey is also an adjunct professor of science writing in NYU's Science Health and Environmental Reporting Program and a contributing producer to BRINK, a new science magazine show on the Science Channel.

Corey lives with his wife and young daughter in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, where he manages to find the stars (occasionally) with the help of the Amateur Astronomer's Association of New York.
