Times Launches Its Own Flavorpill

Not content to sit tight while the preeminent NYC nightlife guides like Time Out, New York and Flavorpill rule the Web, the New York Times today announced Urbanite, a free daily e-mail newsletter designed to “bring The Times’s rich mix of consumer journalism to the foreground, highlighting critics’ picks, notable products and hip venues.”

Melena Ryzik, a Brooklyn journalist, will write Urbanite. Ariel Kaminer, editor of the Times‘ Arts & Leisure section, will oversee the issues, slated to be sent Monday through Friday by 8:15 a.m.

If Ben Ratliff can recommend where to take a girl to see classic jazz for under $50 in this town, we’ll welcome Urbanite with tatooed arms, then.
