Tokion Owner Larry Rosenblum Buys Inked

We heard word this morning that Larry Rosenblum, the investor who bought Tokion in 2005 under the “Downtown Media Group” banner with plans of building a stable of niche magazines, has made another buy: Inked, the New York-based tattoo magazine.

A call to Tokion‘s offices confirms the acquisition. A release is expected shortly.

Sources say Rosenblum may be eyeing Bucky Turco‘s Animal magazine, and that the two have had positive meetings though no deal has been reached.

Former Tokion publisher Adam Glickman wrote in a 2005 e-mail that Rosenblum’s “plan is to build a niche company with a handful of magazines under one umbrella, sharing the business and publishing resources while simultaneously allowing the creative teams to operate autonomous of one another.”

One theory floated our way is that Rosenblum wants to become “the Jason Binn of downtown magazines.” We’ll see.
