Traffic to Newspaper Web Sites Up 11 Percent

march03.09.09.jpgNewspapers Web sites saw an 11 percent increase in traffic from January 2008 to January 2009, according to a new study from Nielsen Online.

Combined, the sites had just under 75 million visitors — up 7.9 million from 12 months prior. This ends a seven-month period of decline for the collective of newspaper Web sites, which topped out March 2008 at 69.4 million visitors.

The increase is roughly the same as traffic to magazine Web sites, which also grew increased 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008.
