Tribune Execs Threw Poker Party While Newspapers Crumbled

Tribune execs didn’t let gutted newsrooms and the company’s bankruptcy keep them from turning the historical offices of former Tribune owner Col. Robert R. McCormick into their own personal Las Vegas.

The pictures showed up on the Facebook page of John D. Phillips, the Tribune Tower building manager, and appear to be about a year old.
Top executives pictured include CEO Randy Michaels, senior vice president and chief Whackadoodle Lee Abrams, president of Tribune Interactive Marc Chase, and program director of Tribune news/talk WGN-AM (720) Kevin Metheny.

Phillips described the festivities:

We are in the office of the guy who ran the company from the 1920s to 1955 – it’s normally a shrine. We pretty much desecrated it with gambling, booze and cigars. Good thing we know the guy who runs the building!

Well, they had to do something with those fat bonus checks.

The pictures have since been hidden or taken down, and were likely never meant for public consumption. Perhaps for once Facebook’s confusing privacy settings worked in our favor!

Chase and Metheny counting their money.

It doesn’t matter who’s winning. They’re all rich.
