Twitter Hires LA Point Man

Let’s hope in this case that appearances are definitely deceiving. Because the Twitter stream of Omid Ashtari (pictured), the man who started a new job this week in SoCal as entertainment business development rep for the micro-blogging service, was at press time far from Twitter-ific.

Journalist Liz Gannes broke the news of Twitter’s latest hire late yesterday at AllThingsDigital.com. She says the former Creative Artists Agency suit will be tasked with strengthening the use of Twitter by celebrities and Hollywood media companies.

Explains Gannes:

Twitter confirmed the hire, saying in an email that Ashtari “will lead efforts to assist the entertainment industry, including actors, musicians, and athletes, to make sure they are getting the most out of their use of Twitter. Omid will be based in Los Angeles, CA, but the scope of the job is global.”

Or, put another way, Ashtari has just snagged one of the sweetest social media gigs on the planet. Despite having a meager 226 followers on Twitter (a number that will of course immediately start to rise as news of his super-cool job spreads). He will be working closely with @ChloeS and @robinsloan.
