Two Years After Aquisition, ALM Spins Off Again

Two years after acquiring ALM, Incisive Media has decided to spin-off the unit into “a separately structured, independent company operating once again under the ALM brand,” the company announced today.

Since the acquisition in 2007, ALM, which owns pubs including The American Lawyer and Law.com, has been an operating unit of Incisive. Now, after a transition period, ALM will no longer share any operations or infrastructure with Incisive. However, the two companies will continue to share content.

William L. Pollack will still be the president and CEO of ALM, and the senior management will remain the same, the company said.

Although the formal announcement came out today, news of the restructuring broke last week — Gawker published an internal memo sent by Pollack to his staff.

“Coming new product introductions will broaden our reach in the legal information marketplace and our investments in digital technology are already bearing fruit,” Pollack said. “And, as the media world moves to a greater reliance on paid content and more sophisticated advertising and sponsorship models, ALM is well-positioned for future success.”
