VNU Lays Off ‘Week Staffers

Multiple insiders tell FishbowlNY that VNU has laid off staffers at magazines within its ‘Week triumvirate—Adweek, Brandweek, and Mediaweek. According to those with knowledge of the situation, up to 10 editorial and sales employees were pink-slipped. Cost-cutting was cited as a motive, but no word yet on names and titles of those affected. Developing.

In related VNU news, the Dutch conglomerate’s shares on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange were delisted yesterday. In addition to the 110 properties — many of them magazines you’ve never seen nor heard of unless you consider yourself a Progressive Grocer — encompassed by its Business Media arm, VNU also owns the Nielsen TV ratings and ACNielsen consumer tracking businesses.
