Wall Street Journal Facing Strike, Layoffs?

The craptastically tense situation at Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal is only getting worse. Union rep/WSJ vet Jim Browning told Editor and Publisher that newsroom workers are considering a strike:

“A lot of people want to have a strike vote,” Browning said. “It is increasingly likely; a lot of people want that to happen.” [...] “They’ve been bad from the start,” Browning, a 28-year Wall Street Journal reporter, said of the negotiations. “Very acrimonious.”

Meanwhile, the Financial Times reports that Dow Jones is getting ready to make staff cuts. In a letter to Dow Jones employees, CEO Richard Zannino said News Corp’s acquisition will mean “there will be some changes… where job cuts are unavoidiable, we will communicate that as soon as practical.”

And the sword of Damocles drops in 3…. 2…. 1….
