Webbys Add Byrne, Online Video For 2007
Prince showed up at the 2006 version of the Webbys, and it appears the producers of the venerable awards show are hoping for more Madison Avenue and Hollywood than Silicon Valley. The Webbys call for 2007 entries today included the addition of 15 new categories — including interactive advertising — and the Webby Film and Video Awards, recognizing the influence of online video.
Harvey Weinstein, executives from R/GA, Showtime, and others are lending their pull to the event, spearheaded by former Variety publisher and Lunch at Michael’s regular Gerry Byrne.
Perhaps our “innovative” post-cocktail video interview with New York Times op-ed columnist Thomas Friedman at the Webbys will get a nomination.
