Where the heck do you store 500 balloons? That’s not GMA’s problem.
Congratulaions, “Today” for your 35,000 number-one yesterdays! This week NBC’s “Today” Show celebrated its 500th week at number one in the morning – and to celebrate, GMA sent them 500 balloons in the Swedish imperial colors of blue and yellow. Bra, mycket bra!* Quoth Lowdown: “‘Congratulations on 500!’ read the poster-sized card that accompanied the delivery at Rockefeller Center in a 20-foot truck. ‘From Diane [Sawyer], Charlie [Gibson], Robin [Roberts], Tony [Perkins] and Ben [Sherwood] and all of us at Good Morning America.’” Aw. That’s gracious. TVNewser says that People sent over yummy cakes and that the staff got loopy on champagne with producer Jim Bell to celebrate. We could make a crack here about Alessandra Stanley‘s clickety balloon-popping heels or note archly that Tom Touchet had to have done something right, but really it’s just nice to have good news, and fun to imagine Matt n’ Katie sucking back all that helium. Fun with funny voices!
It’s been a while since we brightened your day with music, so here you go, in English and German. Happy Swedish Balloon Day!
Update: An anonymous tipster just called me a math geek. Whoops, “Today” doesn’t broadcast on weekends so it’s actually only 25,000 yesterdays. Y’know, I wasn’t really going for strict literalism with that one, but you called me a math geek, and now I’m glowing.
*That means “Good, very good!” in Swedish. Guess what “Jag kommer från Kanada” means?
