Wired Gets New Publisher

wired02.24.09.jpgWired looked to one of its own to save the struggling brand. Conde Nast brass elevated Howard Mittman, who has been the magazine’s associate publisher since 2006, to the full publisher position. Mittman replaces Chris Mitchell, who jumped to Conde Nast Traveler.

Before coming to Conde, Mittman worked at Popular Science and Mutual Funds.

Wired‘s ad pages have fallen on hard times recently and the brand needs to turn it around or else follow Domino into the realm of well-loved pubs that couldn’t hack it under the reign of Si Newhouse. (Of course, they could always fold Portfolio and save every other book, but that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.)
