One Man’s Wizard of Oz Remake

We may never know if Robert Zemeckis was seriously considering a remake of The Wizard of Oz and was then moved by the immediate blogosphere outcry to abandon those foolish plans. But thanks to the self-publishing wonders of WordPress and Blogger, we have the next best thing.

Perry Block, owner of one of the funniest Blogspot profiles we’ve ever read, shares his Havertown, PA visions of an Oz revisit under the title Flying Monkeys in the Mist. This is no two-paragraph quick-hit job. Father of two Block goes to extensive town on the Frank L. Baum classic.

Here’s just a brief taste:

The Wicked Witch approaches Dorothy’s feet and tries to secure her shoes. She screams in pain as she experiences what seems to be a terrific electric shock.

Wicked Witch: AHHHHHHHH!!!!! I experienced a tweet from the vastly over-rated Twitter feed @ShitMyDadSays. It was totally unfunny!!!

Glinda: (to Dorothy) Nobody deserves to suffer like that!

The four scenes in Block’s Part 1 touch on HBO and a whole range of other pop culture topics. It’s definitely a lot more offensive than anything Zemeckis would have attempted, and best of all, there’s more to come.
