Yahoo! Most Visited Website for First Time in Two Years

Laugh all you want at Marissa Mayer and her upsidedown lounge chair moves. Judge people who still have Yahoo! email addresses. But at least in terms of Internet traffic, Mayer’s takeover of Yahoo is making a difference. According to Adweek, in July, Yahoo! was the most visited website  for the first time since 2011.

Comscore’s stats say that Yahoo! had about 197 million unique visitors in July, better than Google (192 million), Microsoft (180 million) and Facebook (142 million). The achievement is especially notable because the numbers don’t take into account traffic gained from Yahoo’s Tumblr purchase in May.

When Mayer was named Yahoo’s CEO last year, the site lagged behind in third place. Grabbing first — even if it’s just for one month — is reason to celebrate.
