Other Work History

For the past four years, I served as a strategic communications associate for the University of Missouri. I worked beats to find and tell stories, from research breakthroughs and sports victories to student accomplishments and academic opportunities. I reported, wrote and edited news articles and feature stories for MIZZOU, the alumni magazine, and Mizzou News, the news site for the university. // Prior to MU, I served as the editor of Renew, a startup lifestyle magazine for the addiction recovery community. I had my hand in every phase of the publication process, from developing the brand of the magazine and the website to supervising the internship program to providing customer service in conjunction with our fulfillment house, while also maintaining my editorial roles as writer, copy editor and proofreader.

"As the founding editorial director for Renew, I had the good fortune to get to know Kelsey as an assistant editor, and eventually, as my editor. I had to manage Kelsey from another location, so I needed someone I could count on to work independently and proactively. Kelsey is wise beyond her years and performs every task with a high level of professionalism and integrity. She's forward-thinking, detail-oriented and extremely conscientious. If I ever have the opportunity to hire her again, I will do so without blinking an eye. A true "find!" — Kelly O'Rourke Johns, director of marketing and communications at Minnesota Masonic Charities // "Kelsey has helped me on a contract basis, and she has been fantastic. She is able to understand a concept quickly and then either create or edit content very effectively. As important, she is able to deliver material on tight turns without compromising quality one bit. I am delighted to have found her and look forward to an ongoing working relationship." — Kristin Burke,
