Professional/Personal Overview
Sixteen years in the Virgin Islands and even more in Florida have steered my writing and broadcasting style toward the informal, with subjects from people to homes to lifestyle to food. To get the story, I ask the questions my audience would ask if they could. Interviews with Charles Osgood, Johnny Mathis, Larry King and others were fun, but just as interesting were conversations with a husband and wife who run a tropical plant nursery in South Florida; the retired cowboy actor with a herd of Longhorns in Okeechobee; and a captain who plies the waters off Sanibel/Captiva with visitors who want to fish, shell or just get a different view of Florida. One of my favorite stories was on cooking conch. I tracked down a long-retired cookbook author from St. Thomas, then pounded, cooked and photographed five pounds of conch using her recipes.
