Professional Experience

A creative and thorough editor with five years of experience content editing and proofreading for various magazines. I edit articles for organization, voice, style, grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation and accuracy. I also check layouts for artwork, making sure the design makes sense and the art matches the concept of the actual written content. In addition to editing submitted stories for multiple client magazines, I also write headlines, decks, subheads and informational breakouts. I often go the extra mile, searching for documents or statistics that we can either link to from our website or that can be included in the design of the actual print story. I've covered a wide range of topics from health to hair and beauty to the roofing industry. In addition to being a skilled editor, I'm a versatile writer who can adapt to multiple styles and turn around well organized, well written articles and press releases that need minimal editing.

Showcase

Blog Writing

I attended a produce launch at a local salon. I interviewed sources and wrote up the story, and I took the photos that were used in the blog.
A sample of my blog writing, published in early 2014. In addition to interviewing the source and writing the story, I also got photos of the salon from the PR department.

Editing Work

Before and after editing sample. The original unedited draft is first followed by the final layout. If you follow the URL link I've provided, you can see I also changed the headline for the Web.
A before and after example of my editing work. The original, untouched draft sent from the freelance writer is the first document, which is followed by the story in its final layout. In addition to editing the story, I also wrote the headline, deck and the "Know Your Meat" sidebar.

Published Print Stories

A straightforward health-related awareness story talking about the signs of thyroid diseases like hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
This is a more technical piece. It was about a roof rating system that our association and sister organization had paired up to create. I contacted and spoke to multiple companies, coordinating interviews and gathering tons of photos.
I pitched this story while interning at Newcity magazine. It's about a group of avid runners who set a time to meet up in certain areas of the city known to be littered and will jog/walk while picking up trash in said area. They mostly try to jog while doing it but it's not a requirement. Most of th
This is one of many salon profile pieces I wrote for Sophisticate's Black Hair magazine in 2014.
This was a sidebar story I wrote regarding the availability of organic foods in lower-income neighborhoods.
