Let's face it: David Lynch's 1984 film version of the classic sci-fi novel Dune is, at best, a beautiful mess (not that it's his fault), and while the TV miniseries that aired in 2000 did well enough to spawn a sequel, it still left some fans unsatisfied. (Of course, there's no satisfying some fans, but that's a discussion for another day.) The cinematic rumor mill Ain't It Cool News is suggesting that Paramount might want another crack at the project, and they even think Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) might be the auteur who wants to make it happen.
Somehow the odds of a film studio authorizing a remake of one of the biggest critical and commercial flops of the last quarter-century doesn't strike me as all that plausible, but I don't work the film beat, so don't take my word for anything.
