Amazon Releases Kindle for iPhone App

amazonk.jpgToday Amazon unveiled a new, free iPhone application that allows customers to read Kindle books on mobile devices. While the program is intended to add mobile functionality to the Kindle, readers can use the app without purchasing the $359 digital reader.

Digital books for the app must be purchased through the Amazon store. The app uses Whispersync to keep the reader’s place in a book as they switch between mobile devices. To download the app, simply search for “Amazon Kindle” in Apple’s App Store.

Bookseller had a quote from Amazon Kindle’s VP, Ian Freed: “We are excited to bring the new Kindle application to Apple’s App Store and think customers are going to love how easy and fun it is to read their Kindle books on the iPhone and iPod touch. Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch is a great way for customers to catch up on their current book wherever they are, like in line at the grocery store or between meetings.”
