American Zoetrope has acquired the film rights for Alysia Abbott’s memoir, Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father (W. W. Norton & Company). Sofia Coppola will co-write the screenplay along with Andrew Durham. She will produce the film along with Roman Coppola.
The book is a coming-of-age story of a girl in 1970s and 80s San Francisco and the effects of the AIDS epidemic on her father’s life. “I love the book Fairyland; it’s a sweet and unique love story of a girl and her dad, both growing up together in 1970′s San Francisco. I think it will make an engaging and touching movie on a subject I’ve never seen before,” stated Ms. Coppola.
Brandy Rivers at The Gersh Agency, David Davoli of Davoli Law Firm, and David Patterson at Foundry Literary + Media represented Abbott in the deal. ICM Partners and the attorneys Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman represented Zoetrope.
