Andrew Garfield Is Next Spider-Man

26-year-old British actor Andrew Garfield has been picked as the next actor to play Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4–a reboot of the blockbuster comic book adaptation. The film is scheduled for release on July 3, 2012.

This GalleyCat editor would like to remind readers that Garfield starred in the dark, brilliant adaptation of novelist David Peace‘s Red Riding Quartet. Watch the trailer embedded above, and add the film to weekend viewing if you want to meet the next Spider-Man. For extra credit, check out our interview with Peace–the hardboiled mind behind the Red Riding books.

Here’s more from Spider-Man director Mark Webb (who directed 500 Days of Summer): “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
