Are Kindle Users More Valuable Than Regular Readers?

sethgodin.gifAs the eBook revolution looms, are publishers focusing on the wrong consumers?

Digital guru Seth Godin recently wrote that publishers should be spending most of their time paying attention to Kindle users and Walmart shoppers who are buying more books for less money. It’s a major shift for an industry built to sell print copies at much higher prices. What do you think?

Here’s a key quote: “Kindle readers buy two or three times as many books as book readers. Why? I don’t think it’s necessarily because using a Kindle leads someone to read more books. I think it’s because the kind of person who buys a lot of books is the most likely person to pony up and buy a Kindle. I know that sounds obvious, but once you see it this way, you understand why book publishers should be killing themselves to appeal to this group.” (Via Maria Schneider)
