waterchoco2.jpgOver the weekend Laura Esquivel, the novelist who wrote the bestseller “Like Water for Chocolate,” lost in her run for a Mexican congressional seat.

According to Hispanic Business, the author ran for a seat representing Mexico City for the liberal PRD party. She secured 20 percent of the vote but was defeated by a more conservative candidate from the PAN party which currently holds national power.

Here’s more from the article, following the fate of a similar writer and political candidate: “Another writer, Guadalupe Loaeza, battled hard for a congressional seat but was defeated by PAN hopeful Gabriela Cuevas, 49 percent to 34 percent.”
