James McMichael, a finalist in the poetry division of last year's National Book Awards, was cited earlier this week by the Academy of American Poets as the winner of this year's Academy Fellowship, a $25,000 stipend for "distinguished poetic achievement at mid-career." New Yorkers will get to hear McMichael read from his work next month, when he takes part in the Academy's three-day Poets Forum, about which I'm sure I'll have more to say in the next few weeks.
