PW Chats With 2007's Kids Book ChampsI kept meaning to get around to saying something about the Caldecott and Newbery awards presented earlier this week, but somehow it just never came together. And then PW put out interviews with the two winners, Brian Selznick (The Invention of Hugo Cabret) and Laura Amy Schlitz (Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!: Voices from a Medieval Village). The magazine also reports on the reaction from booksellers to this year's selections: nothing as dramatic as a controversy over scrotums, though. This time, it's merely curiosity over Hugo Cabret, a 500-pages-plus illustrated novel, taking the Caldecott for picture book. UPDATE: By way of FishbowlNY, I see that Selznick's a local boy, as is silver Caldecott medalist Mo Willems, and Newbery runner-up Jacqueline Woodson. Go Park Slope, woo! Email This Post |
