A little over a year ago, I chatted with Gretchen Rubin about her Happiness Project blog, where she writes about her efforts to measure the results of following advice from various self-help experts, with an aim towards crafting a book out of the year-long experiment.
And, lo: HarperCollins announced this morning that executive editor Gail Fletcher has made a successful pre-empt for the world English rights, and aims to publish the book in 2010. "In happiness research, I've read about the 'arrival fallacy,' in which we believe that if only we would hit a certain goal, then we would be happy," Rubin responded when contacted by email about the sale. "And usually we're not as happy as we expect when we do hit that goal. I have to say, arriving at the goal of selling my book proposal has indeed made me very happy!"
