Bob Andelman Is Not a Terrorist, OK?

andelman-al-arian.jpgAs the St. Petersburg Times pictures demonstrate, freelance journalist (and Will Eisner biographer) Bob Andelman looks an awful lot like Sami Al-Arian, a former university professor in Florida who’d been in jail for years, accused of providing financial support to terrorist organizations, and now faces deportation after being guilty to one of the counts against him.

“But even when he leaves the United States [Andelman writes], I don’t see the problem going away. Every time I go through airport security in the future, I expect I’ll still be stopped by people who think he’s back. Or who never heard he left. I’m in the news business; I know people don’t pay attention to details sometimes.”

The only thing that’s kept suspicions at bay? “A pair of funky blue plastic-frame glasses.” Too bad Andelman’s not wearing them in his photo on the left!
