Michael Connelly's Latest Books Are For the Birds![]() If you're a reader of Page Six, you might have caught a glimpse of Michael Connelly in yesterday's column—but it didn't mention where they'd seen the bestselling mystery writer. He was in town for an event at the Mysterious Bookshop celebrating the publication of In the Shadow of the Master, a collection of stories by Edgar Allan Poe with essays from mystery and horror writers acknowledging his long-reaching influence. (Several of those authors, including Nelson DeMille, Laura Lippmann, S.J. Rozan, and Rupert Holmes, also joined the party.) (We haven't seen the book yet, but we think it would be perfect if Holmes's contribution discussed the heretofore unacknowledged influence of Poe on his hit song, "Timothy.") Anyhoo, we were struck by the similarity of the cover of In The Shadow of the Master to the cover of The Scarecrow, the Connelly novel Little, Brown is publishing in late May. Connelly's publicist told us he was down in Florida, watching the big game, but she was able to pass on a brief message: "Connelly refuses to eat crow on this, because that's a raven on the Poe anthology.
