How Lucy Found a Home at Skylight![]() Shortly after yesterday's item about the bookstore cat with feline lymphoma, Skylight Books general manager Kerry Slattery sent an email explaining how Lucy—seen above lounging in a sun-kissed display window—came to the East Hollywood indie bookshop. "I acquired her from a person who finds homes for rescued animals and was showing them for one day at a local pet store," Slattery wrote. "I had a cat already, but Lucy kept reaching out of her carrier, lying upside down and batting at me. How could I resist?" Slattery's home cat resented the new arrival, though, so after an attempt to keep them in separate rooms, she tried bringing Lucy to the store one Sunday afternoon. "She was so happy running up and down the stairs to our mezzanine office and getting pets from staff and customers," Slattery recalls. "After the third time I brought her, she kept running away when I tried to put her back in her carrier. I let her stay overnight and she's been here ever since!" And for the last decade, she's been a regular fixture in customer's laps, sauntering through readings, and cleaning herself while sitting on a stack of NY Times by the register. As a reminder to our Los Angeles readers, Skylight will be hosting a bake sale Sunday to help defray Lucy's medical expenses. And, at the risk of completely derailing the blog, if you run a bookstore, and you have a cat, show me a picture. But I'm only talking to the bookstore owners this time around: All you writers and publishing industry pros will have to wait a few more months until it's your turn again!
