Borders Announces Original Voices Nominees

Borders named the nominees for this year’s Original Voices awards, recognizing a batch of “new and promising talent whose work our home office and store employees found compelling this past year,” as senior VP Bill Nassahan described the shortlists. The fiction list includes some of the last year’s most trumpeted literati—Marisha Pessl, Sara Gruen, and Kevin Brockmeier—while the nonfiction list includes National Book Award winner Timothy Egan and GalleyCat favorite Jay Kopelman. (I’m also glad to see Sy Montgomery’s charming The Good, Good Pig on the nonfiction list.) Winners in these categories, along with the children’s and YA divisions, will be selected in Jnauary, and receive a $5,000 prize.
