Brandon Sanderson Sells Two Novels to Tor Books

Tor Books has acquired two new novels by fantasy writer, Brandon Sanderson (pictured).

The first novel, Mistborn: The Alloy of Law, takes place in “a frontier era where ‘allomancy’ meets gunplay.”  The standalone novel will focus on the world of Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy, and publication is set for late 2011.

Here’s more about the second book, to be published in 2012:  “Set in an alternate-history America where magic users (called ‘Rithmatists’) battle wild chalk creatures, The Rithmatist introduces Joel, a student at the Rithmatist academy with great interest in but no ability to use the magic. But when students start vanishing, it’s up to him to expose the sinister figure behind the disappearances.”

Most recently, Sanderson co-wrote Towers of Midnight, the thirteenth book Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. He is also writing A Memory of Light, the final installment of that beloved fantasy series. We also interviewed the novelist about his work.
