Brenda Starr Comic Strip To End After 70 Years

Brenda Starr, Reporter, the once beloved soap opera comic strip, will end in January. UPDATE: TVNewser has an interview with CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr about her relationship with the fictional reporter.

The red-headed newspaper reporter (pictured via her official Facebook page), the  graced the funny pages for more than 70 years. Wikipedia has a good history of the comic strip, complete with some full color strips. Read current episodes at this link.

The Chicago Tribune has the scoop: “Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich — who has been writing the late Dale Messick’s pre- World War II creation into and out of trouble for the last quarter-century — along with June Brigman, the strip’s artist for 15 years, have decided to end their association with the strip. And, rather than find successors, syndicator Tribune Media Services opted to end the daily drama.” (Via Gawker)
