HarperCollins explains the embargo on Burrell's Princess Di book

Or at least, they give one version, though I'm inclined to go along with it - for the most part. Lisa Gallagher, senior vice president and publisher of William Morrow, told Shelf Awareness that the embargo on the book's title and author - now revealed to be Paul Burrell's THE WAY WE WERE - wasn't about generating buzz, but because Morrow's "publishing partner had a serial deal in the U.K. that meant we could not divulge the author or title until after the first excerpt had appeared on September 3. We completely understand that selling in without title or author makes it very difficult for our accounts and our reps to evaluate the book, and therefore we did not take this decision lightly--but in the circumstances it had to be done."

Of course, the same doesn't necessarily go for Burrell, who rather seems to like all the buzz that's generated - even if it's gone to his head. "This may sound strange but he actually thinks he is Diana and he thinks he deserves the wealth and status that goes with the way he feels," said Sophie Simmons, a friend of the late Princess. "He has all but dumped his family and he is living this flamboyant double life in Florida, only returning to the UK when he needs more money. To say that he is addicted to the spotlight is an understatement, it is as if he cannot help himself."
