Oprah's Got CompetitionSaturday's Washington Post profiles William Blum, Osama bin Laden's favorite Western author, as the terrorist leader's on-air plug for Blum's Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower floats the small-press leftist critique of Bush policy onto the Amazon top 20 list...even though bin Laden misattributed the passage he quoted. In addition to the book's availability at Amazon, Blum sells autographed copies out of his apartment, and his website also has select chapters available for preliminary browsing...enabling you to decide whether a book that lumps Westmoreland, Kissinger, and McNamara together with Clinton, Powell, and Wesley Clark as war criminals, one and all, is a book you'll be inclined to agree with or not. Sarah adds: in light of the choice of lede paragraph in the Independent's version of the story, I can't help but wonder when the Onion will be on this story with, er, more suggestions for Osama's Book Club... UPDATE: and as it turns out, I didn't have to wait long for someone to hop that bandwagon! Email This Post |
